My architectural images (Practical Geometry) are much influenced by the American Precisionist art movement of the 1920s and 1930s. This movement was all about geometric forms, crisp lines and a nod to European Cubism.

Born in Pennsylvania, USA, Fred Shively was for many years a writer and creative director in advertising and corporate communications on both sides of the Atlantic. He worked with outstanding designers, photographers, musicians and filmmakers, all of whom helped to shape his creative vision and technical skills.
In recent years, Fred has concentrated on his first love, photography. He attended workshops at prestigious Rockport College in Maine, USA, refining his black-and-white photography skills with several highly-regarded photographers. Several exhibitions followed, in the States and later in Spain.
Today, Fred and his partner, writer Arpy Shively, live and work in Orgiva, in the Alpujarra mountains south of Granada.
In 2005, Fred’s work won first place in a pan-European photographic competition based in Brussels. His photographs of Spanish people, places and lifestyles have appeared in several British magazines. His black-and-white art photography and photo-manipulations are held in private collections in Spain, England and the United States.
Additionally, Fred and fellow photographer Paul Kelly have authored and published a photography book documenting their exploration of cafe/coffee culture in the Balkans. ‘Balkan Caffeination: a caffeinated photo-journal’ can be found on Amazon. Fred has also published a book of photographs to accompany selected poems by Federico Garcia Lorca.
